Op art, also known as optical art, is a style of visual art that began in the mid-1960s making use of optical illusions. This method of art is based on illusion and plays on the human eye’s ability to comprehend what the mind thinks it is seeing vs. reality. These works are mainly abstract and are often in black and white. The viewer gets the impression of movement within the image. Victor Vasarely is known as the pioneering artist of this movement.
